The King and His Court

The LeBron James-led L.A. Lakers bowed out of the NBA playoffs on Monday, losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder and reigning MVP, Canada’s own Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. After the game, the 41-year old James dodged questions about his retirement. Over the course of his incomparable 23-year career, he has won four titles, completely re-written the record book, become a global icon and media mogul, built a net worth north of a billion dollars, and checked the final box this year by playing with his son Bronny. But King James desperately wants to win one final championship – and it’s no slam dunk that will happen in L.A. Which means he’ll have to find another team willing to pay upwards of $60 million for an aging player with diminishing skills. And will LeBron – who has always been “the man” – accept playing a lesser role in order to win one more ring? His answer will determine whether we see him on the courts next year.
